Shenmue III Release Date Delayed To Later 2018
The development schedule for the highly anticipated Shenmue III has been 'revised', announces game director Yu Suzuki. It's now due out in late 2018.
The Shenmue franchise has built quite a cult following for itself since the original released for SEGA Dreamcast back in November 2000. It was an open-world adventure following a teenager searching for his father's murderer. It was followed up in 2001/2002 with Shenmue II for Dreamcast and Xbox.
A Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue III saw almost 70,000 backers pledge over $6.3 million for a sequel from its original creator. It's now being developed by Yu Suzuki and studio Ys Net. This delay to the release comes from the studio investing in more capable technologies for "new possibilities and expressions" with the game. Suzuki-san makes the announcement in a new video posted on Kickstarter.
Shenmue III is in development for PC and PlayStation 4 with release expected in the second half of 2018.
