BioWare's New IP 'Semi-MMO', New Star Wars KOTOR Rumoured
According to reports the fancy new IP universe in the works at BioWare Edmonton is sci-fi themed and will be a semi-MMO experience, with fresh info at E3 2017.
This new IP is allegedly codenamed 'Dylan' and has been in the works at the Edmonton office - the creators of the original Mass Effect trilogy - for about four years. It will be in the vein of Bungie's Destiny and Ubisoft's The Division. Presumably this is referring to instanced co-op experiences and story progression.
The project codename maybe a reference to the protagonist of the game, claims Liam ‘Unseen64’ Robertson.
"Dylan is, from what I understand, a sci-fi themed game, it is sort of Destiny-style, takes some elements from The Division, it has like MMO elements. Someone described it as a 'semi-MMO'. I don't know much more than that... it is a huge scale project, perhaps the biggest BioWare has ever done. It's bigger than Mass Effect Andromeda, considerably so. It will have co-op," said Robertson on his Patreon podcast.
The closest glimpse to this new IP has been from a 'BioWare E3 Official Trailer' from back in June 2014.
Star Wars KOTOR Rumour
There's a super hot rumour also coming from BioWare that a new Knights of the Old Republic project has entered production, or at the very least is being prototyped. Apparently it began as a revival or reboot of the Star Wars RPG created by BioWare but then became something more original.
It's no secret that EA made a big noise about securing the Star Wars license from Disney to make new games exclusively. BioWare already works within the KOTOR universe with their MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic - which has become increasingly 'single-player friendly' and narrative driven. Fans have clamoured for a new KOTOR for years with a sequel even handled by Obsidian Entertainment. BioWare Austin is said to be behind this new KOTOR project, claims Robertson.
E3 2017 is scheduled to run June 13 - 16 this year at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.
